His Eminence Garchen Triptrul Rinpoche is well known for his great compassion. Rinpoche was born in Nangchen, Qinghai, in 1936. He was enthroned at a young age and attained great accomplishment on the practice of White Tara. He is an accomplished Tummo practitioner. After the Chinese Communist party had entered Tibet, Garchen  Rinpoche was imprisoned for almost twenty years together with many other rinpoches. As there was a lack of food supply, Rinpoche once fasted for ninety days, and he trained himself to stay up in the nights without sleep. During this time, he received the Dzogchen teachings.

Garchen Rinpoche is one of the four Eminences of the Drikung Kagyu lineage. The Drikung Holinesses have praised Garchen Rinpoche as an important and great yogi. Currently, Rinpoche resides in America and he shoulders the great task of rebuilding the Drikung Kagyu monasteries in eastern Tibet. Out of great compassion, Rinpoche travels tirelessly every year around the world, in order to benefit sentient beings through the teaching of the Dharma. Rinpoche has students all over the world.

(Taken from the 'Brief biography of H E Garchen Rinpoche' on the cover of his book 'The wisdom flame experiential commentary on the Ganges Mahamudra'.)

"Yesterday, there was a lama from Kham, who endured many hardships for many years, and he practiced the Bodhisattva conduct. He is a courageous lama,  a true hero and an extraordinary practitioner." HH the Dalai Lama.
